A monographic review of the Thermosbaenacea (Crustacea: Peracarida) A study on their morphology, taxonomy, phylogeny and biogeography Naturalis
Wagner, H.P..
In addition to a taxonomic review of the whole order Thermosbaenacea, the general morphology and chaetotaxy are discussed in detail. Due to the results of cuticular staining, and through the study of specimens with SEM techniques also, corrections to earlier interpretations could be made. A chaetotaxic classification, modified after the one of Watling (1989), is presented. In the taxonomic part 34 species are recognized, belonging to seven genera (one new), four families (one new). The examination of adult material of the type species of Monodella, i.e., Monodella stygicola Ruffo, 1949, warranted the creation of Tethysbaena gen. nov., to comprise all other taxa previously included in Monodella. Transferred to Tethysbaena are: M. argentarii Stella, 1951; M....

Jehaia stocki n.g., n. sp., a new interstitial janiroid isopod from the Dominican Republic, Hispaniola (Crustacea; Isopoda; Janiroidea) Naturalis
Wagner, H.P..
A new genus and species of interstitial janiroid isopod is described from the Barahona Province in the Dominican Republic (Hispaniola). It is not clear whether it belongs to the Janiridae or Microparasellidae, although it is provisionally supposed to belong to former family until a thorough revision is made of the Janiroidea.

New cave-dwelling amphipods (Lysianassidae, Hadziidae) from the Dominican Republic (Hispaniola) Naturalis
Jaume, Damià; Wagner, H.P..
Two new stygobiont amphipods are described from anchialine caves located in the Jaragua region (Pedernales Prov., Dominican Republic, Hispaniola). Ottenwalderia kymbalion gen. et sp. nov. is the first lysianassoid known to have penetrated into completely fresh waters, and the fourth colonizing hypogean habitats. Bahadzia jaraguensis sp. nov. is the second representative of this West Indian thalasso-stygobiont genus to be reported from fresh waters; it exhibits the most troglomorphic aspect (i.e. elongation of first antennae and sixth pereiopods) recorded for the genus. Its diagnosis is complemented with a key to the species of the genus Bahadzia. The in situ swimming behaviour of both taxa is briefly described. It is postulated that both amphipods share a...

Stygiomysis aemete n. sp., a new subterranean mysid (Crustacea, Mysidacea, Stygiomysidae) from the Dominican Republic, Hispaniola Naturalis
Wagner, H.P..
During the Amsterdam Expedition to the Dominican Republic a new Stygiomysis species, S. aemete, was captured in a well about 5 km east of the Haitian border in the Pedernales Province. Its relation to the other Caribbean Stygiomysis species as well as the biogeography of the genus is discussed.

The Genera Mithrax Latreille, 1818 and Mithraculus White, 1847 (Crustacea: Brachyura: Majidae) in the Western Atlantic Ocean Naturalis
Wagner, H.P..
The Western Atlantic species formely assigned to the (sub)genera Mithrax and Mithraculus are revised. Mithrax and Mithraculus are treated here as two distinct genera based on seven (relative) constant generic characters, keys to the various species are given. All species are discussed with full account of their synonymy and distribution.

The stygobiont Isopods of the Genus Cyathura in the Dominican Republic (Crustacea; Isopoda; Anthuridae) Naturalis
Wagner, H.P..
During the Amsterdam Expedition to the Dominican Republic five samples containing three species of anthurid isopods, two of them new to science, were collected, viz. Cyathura (Stygocyathura) salpiscinalis Botosarieanu & Stock, 1982; C. (S.) broodbakkeri n. sp.; and C. (C.) tridentata n. sp. The latter is the first hypogean representative of Cyathura s. str. from the Caribbean. All the known Hispaniolan species, C. (S.) motasi Botosaneanu & Stock, 1982, excepted, are found in a limited area that during the Tertiary was covered by an inland sea. Here a rapid speciation occurred in two isolated lakes that were cut off from the sea, and from each other, as a result of uplift in this valley.

The Xanthophyceae and Chlorophyceae of the Western Ross Sea, Victoria Land, Antarctica and Macquarie Island collected under the direction of Prof. Dr. J. S. Zaneveld (1963—1967) Naturalis
Wagner, H.P.; Zaneveld, J.S..
During the austral summer seasons of 1963-1964 and 1964-1965, and during the austral winter season of 1967 Prof. Dr. J.S. Zaneveld made collection expeditions to the western Ross Sea. In 1965 collections were also made from the U.S.C.G. icebreaker ‘Glacier’, around the western Ross Sea and around the Balleny Islands. During the same cruise Macquarie Island was visited. Most collecting was carried out by means of scuba-diving. Prof. Zaneveld was accompanied on these expeditions by W.I. Simmonds (1963-1964), J.M. Curtis (1964-1965), J.K. Fletcher (1964- 1965), D.M. Bresnahan (1967), and L.L. Nero (1967), during these periods students at Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia, U.S.A. In the harsh Antarctic environment the algae discussed in the present...
